Annenberg Community Beach House Santa Monica's Historic Oceanfront Gem

annenberg community beach house

The Annenberg Community Beach House began as the Marion Davies Estate and was built for her by William Randolph Hearst. The Estate included a mansion of more than one hundred rooms and a marble swimming pool. Mr. Hearst and Ms. Davies entertained many famous Hollywood legends including Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, and Charlie Chaplin to name a few. The original mansion was torn down in 1956, but a guesthouse and the splendidly tiled swimming pool remain. Those historic assets have been restored and enhanced with new facilities for public recreation.

As an event space like no other, the Beach House provides the perfect setting for meetings and celebrations, accommodating groups as intimate as ten to celebrations for 400, and available for film and photo shoots. The Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica State Beach is operated by the City of Santa Monica. The Beach House is made possible by a generous gift from the Annenberg Foundation, at the direction of Wallis Annenberg, and in partnership with the City of Santa Monica and California State Parks. The Beach House is easily accessible by foot or by bike from the Marvin Braude Bike Trail (beach bike path).

The State of California purchased the property in 1959, and the Sand & Sea Club continued to operate until 1989. In the 1990s, the City of Santa Monica ran the facility until the 1994 Northridge Earthquake severely damaged all structures on site. With a damaged historical property on their hands, the City of Santa Monica began to entertain the notion of converting the estate into a year-round public beach space. The vision was there but the money wasn’t—until Wallis Annenberg of the Annenberg Foundation, who had fond memories of visiting the Sand & Sea Club, heard of the project and pledged a $27.5 million dollar grant.

History

The north part of Santa Monica State Beach is a wide sandy beach that runs north from the Santa... In 2004, Wallis Annenberg learned about the project and its broad-based potential community benefit. Her interest and generosity, in the form of a $27.5 million grant, paved the way for the site’s rehabilitation and reuse. The project is a partnership with California State Parks and the City of Santa Monica. Free capacity building and leadership development programs designed to assist small to midsize nonprofit organizations and their leaders in the Greater LA region.

Tours & Programs

Although the community is in the name, I think a lot of people think this is part of the neighboring members-only, The Beach Club. Since people think it is off-limits, you do have more chances to find a place for your blanket and picnics. Parking is generally available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, during the  summer pool season there are a limited number of parking reservations available.

Soon after, the State of California purchased the property, continuing to operate the Sand & Sea Club until the 1994 Northridge Earthquake severely damaged the structures. The site was originally developed by William Randolph Hearst for his mistress, actress Marion Davies, in the Gold Coast era of the 1920’s. Hearst worked with architect Julia Morgan to produce a 110-room Georgian Revival mansion complete with guest houses, tennis courts, and an ornate marble swimming pool.

William Randolf Hearst used the same architect for Hearst Castle to design the beach house, Julia Morgan. She worked simultaneously on both residences 230 miles apart from each other in the early years of the 19th century. That meant no company jet to fly Morgan back and forth to deal with a very hands-on Hearst.

Although a reuse plan was adopted in 1998, the project sat on hold while the City tried to secure funding. Wallis Annenberg of the Annenberg Foundation, held fond memories of visiting the Sand & Sea Club. When she learned of the City's struggle to identify funding to realize its vision for a year-round public beach facility, she enthusiastically offered to help. The Annenberg Foundation provided a $27.5 million grant that paved the way for the site's rehabilitation. The historic guest house is the focal point of the sequence of spaces and structures.

Continuing north, the boardwalk passes beach volleyball courts that maintain the game's presence on the site where it was invented. On the inland side of the boardwalk north of the pool is a series of ground level terraces framed with landscape. These areas include a children's play area with a water feature and other spaces shaded by palm and melaleuca trees. The Event House contains three rooms of different sizes, two with fireplaces, for community use. This five-acre beachfront property, developed by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies, included a 100-plus room mansion and several houses designed by architect Julia Morgan. In 1947, Davies sold the property to Joseph Drown, who operated it as the Oceanhouse Hotel along with the Sand & Sea Club, a limited-membership beach club, until the mansion was demolished in 1956.

Information is usually published starting in November for the following year’s event. The City of Santa Monica selected the Santa Monica Conservancy to develop and operate a docent-guided tour program for the Annenberg Community Beach House. Sorrento Beach is the northernmost beach in Santa Monica State Beach yet just one mile from the Santa Monica...

The Beach House is open year round (hours and admission) with summer weekends obviously drawing the biggest crowds. Staff at the Beach House offer fall and winter activities too, including bird walks and tours. Organizations and individuals may also rent out the space for meetings, weddings, and other special events. The estate was sold in 1945 and the property was run as a hotel. After that venture failed, the mansion was demolished and the property sold to the State of California in 1959.

Even though there was a large age difference, she was a teenager, and him in his 50s. To further Marion’s acting career Hearst moved both of them to Los Angeles, leaving his wife and family behind. He started Cosmopolitan Pictures just for Marion and built her a beach house to be closer to Hollywood while he continued the work on Hearst Castle.

The grounds include a playground, courtyard, view deck, beach areas, and volleyball courts and are open to all with no membership required. Some years back, when the concept of developing a public beach house at the site evoked controversy, the Santa Monica Conservancy initiated a community support group known as Friends of 415 PCH. Led by Board member Joel Brand, the Friends rallied hundreds to the cause of preserving the historic site and renovating it for the public’s use.

Here, Davies and Hearst often hosted lavish parties for their famous Hollywood friends like Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, Samuel Goldwyn, and Greta Garbo, among others. The facilities were thoughtfully rehabilitated and designed by Frederick Fisher and Partners, Architects. At the direction of Wallis Annenberg, the Annenberg Foundation provided major funding for the restoration and repurposing of a five-acre beachfront property at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, in Santa Monica, California. The 5-acre oceanfront site upon which the Annenberg Community Beach House now sits was originally developed during the Gold Coast era of the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies.

Carnival Valor Wikipedia

Expect extra living space, a standard-sized balcony and a whirlpool. These staterooms offer undesirable windows that can’t quite be called “ocean-view,” but that at least still do ensure your stateroom doesn’t feel so terribly boxy or claustrophobic. If you want the price of an interior stateroom, but a little more natural light, go with one of these options.

Ships in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet

Whoever it was, they had one thing in mind — maximum fun for mini-golfers, big and small! That's precisely why you'll find a course on every Carnival ship, where you can hit the holes and take in everything you’d expect, like the sights and the sounds... Jogging may not immediately come to mind when you think of things to do at sea, but it probably should.

Exciting entertainment is featured for everyone in the family to enjoy, including dazzling shows at the three-level theater. View hit movies, concerts and more at the jumbo-sized LED screen and head to the excitement at the bustling casino with all your favorite games. Dance the night away and join the laughter at the comedy club. The service is also some of the friendliest and most attentive we've experienced on a mainstream cruise ship. Every crew member -- from the cabin stewards and guest services receptionists to the bartenders and waiters -- embodied the line's "Fun Ship" culture and made sure everyone was satisfied and having a good time.

If you find you’re hungry during one of the select hours where it’s harder to grab a complimentary bite, you may want to spring for some of the extra, for-a-fee dining options. Aft-View Extended Balcony staterooms feature a larger balcony for more lounge-around room, more kick-back space... Not to even mention some of the best stern-side views you'll find anywhere.

Cruise News Recap: Carnival Tampering, Dining Changes, Evacuation

valor cruise ship

Just as is the case on any Carnival cruise, a cruise aboard Carnival Valor is packed with things to do and enjoy, regardless of whether it’s a sea or port day. However, all of these staterooms, despite the shared amenities, do have some significant differences. Interior staterooms, for example, can be further broken down into various other types of interior staterooms, including interior staterooms with portholes and picture windows. Guests have told us we hit on something special with the cool Caribbean chill of the RedFrog Pub. We've taken the best parts and brought them poolside with the RedFrog Rum Bar, where the frog keeps the fun hopping day and night with all the island flava you know and love.

On Carnival Valor, the two main dining rooms offer traditional dinner with set times and tablemates or flexible dining, via "Your Choice Dining" Carnival program. Lincoln is positioned in a central spot, but both offer the same menu. At dinner, the vegetarian and low-carb fare is served, as well as Spa Carnival choices.

Be sure to check out Rosie’s Lido restaurant with its giant Rosie the Riveter mural and the Lincoln Restaurant for its elegant chandeliers. Our video arcade boasts a huge array of games, and is open to players of all ages, all night and all day. So get some tokens from the vending machine and let the fun times begin. Challenge your friends to a game, or just see if you can beat the top score. After all, with the video arcade open 24 hours and an entire cruise ahead of you, you have plenty of time to try.

The 3000-passenger ship Carnival Valor and her sisterships are among the biggest in the CCL fleet. They are basically larger versions of earlier Destiny-class ships, as well as more feature-filled. More space reveals into additional decks, with even more bars and lounges, an upscale steak house, and well-proportioned public areas.

So what can you expect when you’re aboard this (relatively) small ship? While you shouldn’t expect the all-inclusive resort-like feel that you might get on some of Carnival’s new, larger ships, you can still enjoy tons of activities and plenty of complimentary drinks and dining. It all adds up to a perfectly enjoyable way to spend a few days on the high seas. Take advantage of Carnival's onboard activities, including WaterWorks water slides, pools, sports courts, ropes course, mini-golf, video arcade, sports bars, casino, duty-free shopping, bars and lounges, art gallery and more.

You don’t have to walk on water, you just have to get on a Carnival cruise. Jogging tracks are available on all Carnival ships, and are even padded for long-distance comfort. Your parents deserve a nice vacation… but then again, so do you. Hang out and do stuff like watch movies, listen to music from this decade, play sports and video games, join karaoke jam sessions… maybe even have a pool party or two, all with other high schoolers ages of 15 to 17. This is an affordable way to cruise without leaving out the comfort or convenience! What to Expect on Virgin Voyages Compared to Other Cruise Lines Differences, What to Know, & More

virgin cruise line

All Virgin Caribbean cruises depart from homeport Miami Florida. Virgin ships are also seasonally deployed in Europe (via Transatlantic crossings), with planned visits to several major Mediterranean and UK ports (including Dover and Liverpool). In February 2020 was announced "The Band" - smart wearable technology to be introduced on Scarlet Lady (April 1). The device is made from recycled marine plastic (sustainability initiative) and developed via partnership with The Bionic Company.

"Best cruise for adults"

On November 28, 2018, Richard Branson and Tom McAlpin announced in Miami the company's plans to build a new (Virgin-exclusive) cruise terminal in PortMiami. "Virgin Voyages Terminal" is sized 100,000 ft2 (9300 m2) and is on the seaport's northwest side. Virgin's Bimini Beach Club overlooks the sea and features a large lagoon-style swimming pool. The "resort experience" also features morning open-air exercises (yoga and meditation), afternoon DJ poolside parties, night beach bonfires and live musical performances.

Be Careful Booking a Room on Deck 8, Mid-Ship

Cheeky Corner and Suite Aft Suites are also divided into Pretty Big Terrace, Even Bigger Terrace and Biggest Terrace classes. Whether this is your first cruise ever or your first with this cruise line, you'll want to familiarize yourself with Virgin Voyages' cabins and suites before you make that booking. Additionally, we didn't have to worry about extra tips, taxes or fees. Tips for the crew, spa services and more are factored into your cruise price, so what you see on the menu really is what you can expect to pay.

Dining options are plentiful (albeit hit or miss)

Trying to explain all the differences between Virgin and more traditional cruise lines is a challenge. The Sweet Aft Suite ranges in size from 416 to 661 square feet, depending on the deck and the size of the balcony. There's one Sweet Aft Suite on each deck between decks 8 and 14, and each is located smack in the center of the back of each deck. Balcony cabins are designated either regular, extra-large, centrally located or limited-view, and your cruise fare will change depending on which you choose.

Our cruise ships are making quite a splash online

But we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival, as the suite was filled with plenty of space to accommodate all of our clothes and toiletries. Virgin cruise bookings on Scarlet Lady were opened on February 5, 2019 (for customers with pre-sale deposits) and on February 14 (for the general public). For February 6th was planned the learning campaign "Cabin Fever" on Scarlet Lady staterooms as they went on sale. The website allows travel agents to make bookings on inaugural cruise season 2020 deals (from February 14) and to contact company's Sailor Services (from February 5) in case they have customers with pre-sale deposits.

Longer sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean

If you wait until the day of a show or even just a couple of days before dinner, then you aren’t likely to get a spot. But if you are in room 5266A, there’s another room on the other side of the ship that’s 5266Z. In other words, you need to pay attention to the entire room number, including the letter at the end.

For my stay, I was booked in the Sea Terrace cabin, which is their standard balcony cabin. Although the bathroom was a little small, I appreciated the extra space in the stylish room. The cabin is high-tech and low-touch with a tablet that centralizes all the controls in the room including the lights, AC, the TV and the window shades.

I can’t believe I am going to say this after years of giving my mother grief for not getting off cruise ships and exploring, but my friend and I loved Valiant Lady so much that we wished we spent more time onboard! In early-April 2019, Virgin Voyages signed an exclusive 7-year partnership deal with OSW (OneSpaWorld Holdings Ltd) - a provider of health-and-wellness services and products on cruise vessels and in destination resorts worldwide. OSW provides all the wellness staff, services and products onboard Virgin ships, including yoga and gym trainers, massages, medispa treatments, salon (manicure-pedicure-hairdresser) services. The served facilities include Crow's Nest (outdoor yoga studio), Redemption Spa, Dry-Dock (blowout bar), B-Complex (Fitness Center). Travel agents receive 16% base commission on the transaction (increased from 10% by the expanded "Brilliant To Do Business With" program).

There’s no need to tip when you go out to dinner or drinks onboard or at their private beach club (more on that later). This means even when you purchase an alcoholic beverage, you won’t need to add an extra tip and it won’t be automatically added to your account, as it would be on other cruise lines. I wanted to see what would happen if I tried to give my bartender a cash tip one night and they declined to take it. It's really up to you regarding masks on board as masks are recommended but not required.

The 4- or 5-night "Havana After Dark" itineraries allow Sailors to explore the Cuban culture and include an overnight stay in Cuba's capital city. Each boat has 86% balcony staterooms and 93% oceanview (outside) cabins. These newbuilds greatly differ from other passenger liners (as design) and target younger and more adventurous travellers (called "sailors"). Initially, Virgin Voyages only offered shorter sailings of five or fewer nights to the Bahamas and Caribbean. But its list of itineraries in the regions is now peppered with longer voyages of six to eight nights. "I loved my experience with Virgin Voyages. I have previously cruised with many other cruise lines. This cruise had the best entertainment and food."

The custom-designed hammocks are handwoven by women in rural Thailand and sold by Yellow Leaf, an organization focused on community transformation and female empowerment. There are also no set dining times, restaurant rotations or dress codes, though you can — and should — make dinner reservations. As a result, you can dine at whichever restaurant you prefer at a time that works for you. The bed was also rather hard and uncomfortable for my personal tastes, so much so that by the last night of our trip, I was ready to return to my more inviting setup at home. It didn't offer as much of a party vibe as Gunbae, but it still felt lively and served a solid selection of Mexican dishes. Additionally, you'll find casual spots that serve ice cream, pizza, poke bowls and more.

All eateries offer "exceptional made-to-order eats" - complimentary. If you’ve sailed other cruise lines, then you know that most have a credit card style room key. You use this to access your cabin, make purchases on the ship, and for disembarking. For more spacious bathrooms, tricked-out terraces, lounge and seating spaces, and extra perks, upgrade to the RockStar Quarters. Gunbae's Korean fare was not only delicious but served in a setting that was an absolute blast to experience.

News Crystal: Exceptional at Sea

crystal cruise

All FCCs are valid on any Crystal cruise (Ocean, Yacht, Expedition, River) with departure through December 31, 2023. Crystal Skye's inaugural "flight cruise" (9-night itinerary, September 29 through October 8, 2017) was themed "Golden Week Holiday AirCruise" leaving out of Hong Kong. DIAMOND-Class megayachts were also with ice-classed hulls and propulsion based on 4x AzipodXO units (by ABB Marine). The gearless propulsion system comprised 1x electric drive motor (per unit) contained in a submerged pod (outside the hull).

Grand Voyages 2024

ABB Azipods reduce the vessel's lifecycle costs and guarantee optimum efficiency operations. Of all 4 units per ship, 2 had power output 22 MV (each), and 2 had 19 MW (each). Specialty coffees and teas were served complimentary by the Vienna Austria-based company Julius Meinl. In February 2023 were rehired four veteran Hotel Directors - Hubert Buelacher and Scott Peterson (Crystal Serenity) and Herbert Jaeger and Josef Matt (Crystal Symphony).

SAIL THE BALTICS & NORTHERN EUROPE

It has its own landing craft on board to bring people ashore in remote locations, and it sails with a large and seasoned "expedition team" that includes a geologist, an ornithologist, a mammologist and a photography expert. The Seabreeze Penthouse with Verandah features butler service, a walk-in closet, private verandah, in-suite tea or cocktails, plus canapés and dining from specialty restaurants Umi Uma and Prego. In addition, Crystal’s enrichment program presents an array of onboard lectures by guest speakers, who in the past have included actors, sports stars, political figures, scientists, entrepreneurs and even astronauts. These vary by sailing and guests are often delighted to discover who will be aboard and speaking during their cruise. Crystal guests can enjoy one complimentary meal at both Umi Uma and Osteria d’Ovidio on sailings up to 11 days, two on cruises up to 22 days and three on sailings of 23 days or more.

new DIAMOND-Class ships (2022-2025/canceled)

Life on board is marked by superior style and sophistication, impeccable service, tranquility, perfection in every detail, one of the best enrichment programs at sea. These regularly scheduled voyages visit each year some of the world's most exotic vacation destinations, among which are Hawaii, South Pacific Islands, Australia New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Alaska. Crystal Ocean cruise ships call on over 180 ports in 60 different countries worldwide. In June 2023 Crystal announced the Aurora Spa - the new onboard wellness concept through the company's collaboration with TDoS (Tillberg Design of Sweden) and partnerships with the premium cosmetic brands ELEMIS and KERASTASE. On both ships, the Spa facilities were completely redesigned, modernized and expanded with new treatments and services. Crystal also renewed its 2019-signed partnership with OneSpaWorld Holdings Ltd (2018-founded, Bahamas-based company) for staffing and managing the fleet's shipboard wellness (spa and fitness) facilities and services.

The line attracts 55-plus, well-traveled guests looking for high levels of personal service -- on both ships there is nearly one crew member to every passenger -- and luxury. While Crystal is not an obvious first choice for families, a youth program is offered on select cruises, particularly during the summer school vacation period. Among luxury cruise operators, Crystal has long been known for vessels that are relatively large. There are a high number of inclusions, including virtually all dining, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, wi-fi, gratuities and transfers. Crystal ships sail everything from short, seven-night cruises to Alaska to 141-day globe-circling voyages. Unlike mass-market lines, the company generally doesn't offer sailings of six nights or fewer.

crystal cruise

Crystal’s loyalty program is known as Crystal Society and guests who have cruised with Crystal in the past are entitled to a number of onboard benefits. Details of the revamped Crystal Society are expected to be announced shortly. Crew gratuities (for stateroom attendants, butlers, restaurant, and bar personnel, etc.) are included in all Crystal cruise fares. The 3,000-square-foot Fitness Centers aboard both ships are now lined with the latest Technogym® equipment and guests can also enjoy yoga, meditation and personal training sessions. They can also head to Wimbledon Court on the top deck for Paddle Tennis and Pickleball.

That leaves less room for deck-top features such as outdoor pools, lounge areas, restaurants and bars. The "Luxury Bahamas Escapes" itineraries included the call ports Harbour Island, Great Exuma Island (Georgetown), San Salvador Island and Long Island. In August, to the itinerary was added Miami as both call port and homeport/departure port.

Crystal Cove bar is a great spot to catch live music (classical, jazz, piano, and even the occasional rock moment). Ranging in length from 11 to 19 nights, the company also had planned roundtrip departures from Ushuaia Argentina, between December 2021 and February 2022. Fares for Crystal Cruises 2023 World Voyage started at USD 46,700 per person (double occupancy). The latter part of 2025 sees voyages to the Middle East, with stops at Safaga (Luxor) in Egypt, Dubai (known for luxury shopping and modern architecture), and Salalah, Oman's third-largest city, renowned for its marine life. Extended port calls to urban centers like Ho Chi Minh City, Halong Bay, Laem Chabang, and Shanghai allow for in-depth cultural experiences.

Alas, the line’s parent company went bankrupt in January 2022, and Crystal fans feared their vacation of choice was gone forever. A total of 80 people are onboard for the entire Miami to Miami journey, almost all of them repeat Crystal passengers. Another 90 will be joining the ship in San Diego on February 3; there’s an option to take your 141 nights roundtrip from California too. Each time you hit a new milestone, you’ll be eligible for even more benefits like unlimited free reservations at specialty restaurants, credits towards future sailings, and recognition pins.

For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. Crystal has long been known for epic around-the-world voyages with stops at dozens of destinations on four, five or even six continents. Typical of the latter is the line's 12-night voyage from Istanbul to Monaco, a one-way trip with multiple stops in Greece and Italy. The 740-passenger Crystal Serenity and 606-passenger Crystal Symphony are almost always on the move. They operate a diverse array of itineraries on multiple continents including Europe, North America and Asia. As for the entertainment, while I didn’t stray much from Pete’s piano in the Avenue Saloon, there are standup comedy and musical theater shows at the Stardust Club, Galaxy Lounge, and the Hollywood Theater.

Full Guide to Taking a Disney Cruise From San Diego

disney cruise california

Coming in summer 2024, Disney will have a second exclusive beach destination in the Bahamas — Lighthouse Point. The smaller two ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet are Disney Wonder and the line's first ship, Disney Magic. Disney Treasure, expected to join the fleet in 2024, will be in the same larger Triton class of ships as Disney Wish.

Disney Cruises From California

Depending on which itinerary you book, here are the ports of call you may experience on a San Diego cruise. As a result, even many semi-locals may want to travel to San Diego the night before just in case. One advantage to this approach is that many area hotels will offer their guests a discounted parking package as part of the stay. And parking is a major factor that guests who are driving need to consider. Some budget parking lots that offer shuttle service to the cruise port, while others require taxi or Uber service.

Just across the Sea of Cortez on the mainland of Mexico is Mazatlán, a stop on longer DCL San Diego sailings. A popular excursion there that only takes a limited amount of time and that can be DIYed on the cheap is climbing El Faro – a lighthouse on a hill overlooking the water with spectacular views. Cabo doesn’t have a cruise ship dock of any size, so the ship uses tenders that drop passengers at the far end of the marina. You can take a water taxi across the harbor to get to the Medano Beach area. The Residence Inn San Diego Downtown/Bayfront gives families a little more space as well as family-friendly amenities like full kitchens and included breakfast.

Disney World vs. Disneyland: Which Theme Park Should You Choose?

But for those with kids in that Disney age range, or for adults who know and trust the Disney brand, it's hard to go wrong in choosing Disney Cruise Line for your next vacation. On these shortest cruises, concierge-level cabins and access start at a little over $5,000 for a family of four. For a family of four, the cheapest Disney cruise currently available (not counting the two-night cruises in Australia and New Zealand) is about $2,500. An ocean view will add about $90 and a verandah will add about $500. Disney Cruise Line has a simple loyalty program, the Castaway Club, with four "elite status" levels that you earn based on how many cruises you've taken with Disney. A three-night and 10-night cruise both count as one sailing for these purposes.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

And if that weren’t enough, Port Adventures offers guests the opportunity to snorkel, scuba dive, and swim with dolphins at the while on their Disney cruise from San Diego. Known for its breathtaking blue waters and scenic mountainous landscapes, Ensenada, Baja, California, is a popular stopover location for Disney cruises from San Diego. This seaside paradise is renowned for its friendly locals and lively atmosphere, but it also offers plenty of activities and attractions for adventurers of all ages. You can shop at Plaza Civica Park, explore the Estero Beach Museum and Museo de Historia, or visit family-friendly beaches like San Miguel Beach, El Faro Beach, or Estero Beach.

My family recently sailed aboard a Disney Cruise that departed from San Diego, as it was an easy vacation coming from our home base in the San Francisco Bay Area. For inexperienced cruisers, shorter voyages of3-4 nights are ideal for easing them into sailing, while experienced cruisers may prefer longer voyages to take in more ports. Whatever Disney cruise you choose from San Diego, you’ll experience the vacation magic that only Disney can provide. Disney Cruise Line offers cruises that depart from San Diego for three, four, or seven nights that include ports of call and sea days at multiple locations. The itinerary includes visits to the Baja Peninsula, Mexican Riviera, and Pacific Coast. Visiting the Port of Cabo San Lucas is an ideal way to escape and enjoy the tropical warmth of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.

You’re our first priority.Every time.

While Summer 2023 dates were announced today, general booking will not open until Monday May 9th. The new spread out tiered booking period will begin Monday May 2nd for Castaway Club Members and some others. Children’s rates are also available to Guests ages 3 through 12 that are traveling with 2 adults in the same stateroom.

Having a passport is always a good idea, but it's not technically required on all Disney cruises. For example, round-trip cruises originating in Port Canaveral, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, San Diego, New Orleans, New York and San Juan, Puerto Rico, often do not require a passport. It can also get busy, but typically less busy than the family area. On that themed night, expect everyone to be dressed in their pirate-y best for the evening, so pack accordingly. Your dinner will also have a pirate theme, followed by a fun show up on deck, complete with fireworks.

On the same block as the InterContinental is the family-friendly SpringHill Suites San Diego Downtown/Bayfront. Many of the hotel’s studio suites sleep 5 with two queen beds and a sofa bed. With amenities like a club lounge and a rooftop pool and lounge view a bay view, the InterContinental San Diego is the most luxurious (and usually priciest) property within walking distance of the Disney ship.

We were all fine, but a few members of my family got a little queasy the last night of our cruise as the ship was rocking and rolling speeding back to San Diego from Ensenada. Shorter cruises don’t go as far south and hit Baja ports like Ensenada and/or Cabo San Lucas. Quite a few of the 4 day sailings also visit Catalina Island, California. The longer sailings cruise farther south and can reach Mazatlán and/or Puerto Vallarta on the Mexican Riviera. San Diego’s Park Shuttle & Fly is best if you need longer-term parking for extended Disney cruises. The company offers a free shuttle service that runs 24/7 between this parking garage and the cruise terminals (located 2.8 miles away).

Due to their years of experience and superior customer service, The Vacationeer is one of the top Disney travel agencies for Disney Cruise Line vacations. Disneyland was the second-most visited theme park in the world in 2022 with 16.8 million people coming through the gates, according to a report by the Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM. It later built the Disney California Adventure theme park and the Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment area. Over the last two decades, Disney investments have included Cars Land, Pixar Pier, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and Avengers Campus in Southern California.

Although passengers can’t park their cars at the Port of San Diego, there are some affordable parking options within a short distance of the pier. Wyndham San Diego Bayside Garage is located across the street from the Port of San Diego and offers both self-parking and valet parking. The property is secure, affordable, and you can’t beat the location. The price of a Disney cruise already includes taxes, fees, and port expenses, further enhancing its value. However, Disney cruises do not cover some expenses, such as airfare, gratuities, specialty restaurants, Port Adventures, spa treatments, bottled beverages, and alcohol purchased on a Disney cruise. Cruise bookings are predicted to reach record highs this year, but not all itineraries are created equally — especially if you're looking to sail with Disney Cruise Line.

In the evenings, you'll find included beer, wine and spirits in the lounge — which you can also take with you as you head out to dinner or to enjoy the view from the deck. While pricey, Disney concierge service eliminates almost all of the potential pain points of a Disney cruise (not that there are many pain points to begin with). You can connect many of the cabins on the ship, which is often a much more economical solution for a family looking for more sleeping space (and bathrooms) than upgrading to a multibedroom suite.

If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you're bound for the top deck, that means looking like you're going to the beach. T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to go inside) are fine. It's forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies, and those who violate this rule will face a $250 cleaning fee. If you are on a ship that charges by day instead of by the amount of data used, expect the prices to vary from $12-$36 per day, depending on the speed you select. There are often discounts for buying Wi-Fi access for the length of the cruise.

I will be updating the website throughout the day as I load the sailings and upload the new itinerary maps. The best way to be alerted to updates is by following me on Twitter @TheDCLblog – I will tweet updates as I add the sailings to the website and update this article. At the very end, you will find Disney Cruise Line’s Summer 2023 Itinerary Announcement press release. To take advantage of Florida residency cruise rates, proof of Florida Residency for at least one adult in each stateroom must be presented at time of check-in.

Bahamas day trips by plane are better for a plethora of reasons. First, if it wasn’t obvious, a day cruise to Bahamas by plane is a big time-saver over the traditional ferry to the Bahamas. Suppose you only have one day to spend in the Bahamas; you don’t want to spend six hours in security queues with 200 other ferry-goers and aboard crowded ferries. It is much better to keep your party limited and travel where you want to go faster.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT Bahamas Cruises

We offer you a variety of excursions to choose from, in every port you'll visit. The ferry company suggests you arrive in the ferry terminal two-three hours early for check-in and security queues which is especially important to remember upon returning to the United States. You can either take the ferry directly to Grand Bahama — which is the most timely but most expensive, or you can layover in Bimini before coming to Grand Bahama. One of the most popular ferry options is from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama. Grand Bahama is about 84 miles from Florida, so fairly near if calculating the distance. If you already have a place to stay in Freeport Grand Bahamas or Bimini Bahamas, you can still sail with us (Split cruise).

But besides the exuberant Art Nouveau of Gaudi, there are too may sites to be visited in one day. If embarking or disembarking in Barcelona, you should also enjoy the fun of an overnight. Cruise passengers visiting Barcelona for the day as a port of call need to plan the stay as there are so many enjoyable things to do in this spectacular city. Don’t forget about the chic beach clubs nearby as well; these establishments often host world-class DJs who spin tracks until dawn. For those seeking a more relaxed vibe after disembarking at the Barcelona cruise port, there are countless entertainment options. The Barcelona cruise port, a hub of excitement and adventure, is not just a gateway to the Mediterranean’s azure waters, but also a portal into the vibrant city life of Barcelona.

The other option is to catch a taxi from the port to the city centre which is cheap and quick (normally less than 10 minutes). Thanks to this philosophy, it has been possible to recruit the most appropriate personnel and increase the security measures in the terminals and in all the processes carried out in them. Collaborations with the State security forces also help maintain the high-level of security at the ports. The addition of the connection through the lobby of terminals B and C as well as a specific gangway for the aforementioned cruises have been very well received by both travelers and professionals in the sector. In addition, a continuous effort is made to always be adaptive in the role of the user to achieve excellence.

The terminal is used as both destination (call port) and homeport (for Barcelona turnaround operations). Carnival expects to handle here 1+ million passengers annually after the opening of the new (2nd) terminal. FY2018 (fiscal) was a record year with significant growth in various sectors.

Beyond the top attractions

Inside you’ll find impressive collections of Gothic art, Renaissance, Baroque and Modern art. Sit on the staircase overlooking the fountains and Barcelona while enjoying some live music and a cup of coffee. Get a feel for the place with you stroll along the many souvenir stands, bird market, street artist and outdoor cafe’s. Casa Milà from the outside is not as spectacular as Casa Batllo, but the inside is by far more interesting.

The WTCB terminal, ready for you

You also have a more personal service which can be reassuring if you are not familiar with the city. If your ship docks at the World Trade Center, you won't need the shuttle since points of interest are within walking distance. Aside from that, there is no direct public transit option from this airport to the Barcelona cruise port; every other route only includes several transfers. Some budget airlines also fly to Girona–Costa Brava Airport, which is about 90 minutes north from the Barcelona cruise port. The 46 bus also connects the airport to the city center (stops at Plaça de Espanya), but the ride can be long. Chantelle is a nationally syndicated travel writer, and travel advisor.

Or nibble on Spanish tapas (bite-sized appetisers) around the bar like a local, with house-made vermouth in hand. Explore breathtaking destinations from Cannes to Naples and Florence to Mykonos. In between adventures onshore, fill each day at sea with fan favourites, like the Ultimate Abyss℠ slide, twin FlowRider® surf simulators and AquaTheater.

These were the vessels Norwegian Epic, Nieuw Amsterdam, Vision OTS and Allure OTS. There is a port shuttle bus that goes from the cruise terminals to the Columbus Monument at the bottom of Las Ramblas. The bus is called Cruiser T3 but is often referred to as the 'Blue Port Bus'.

Modernism is the Catan version of Art Nouveau and you’ll find it here in all its glory. What looks like a house straight out of the story of Hans and Grettle stands here right in the centre of Barcelona. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside, make sure to make a stop inside.

The majority of the cruise terminals (A, B, C, D, and E) can be found on Adossat Quay, a long pier to the outside of the harbor, which is connected to the rest of the port by a bridge. However, there are very few cruises that dock in Barcelona as a port of call as it really is a European major embarkation port. Passengers on a cruise calling at Barcelona for a day will have the opportunity to explore this charming city either on tours booked onboard or on their own.

In terms of home-ported ships, Barcelona was ranked Europe's second - following Port Venice. You can look up the timetable, arrival terminal and other information for your cruise ship by following the link below. The walking time from the Christopher Columbus monument to La Rambla is about 1 minute, and the nearest Metro is Drassanes (Green Line, L3), which is only about 5 minutes walk from the monument.
